Electricity is usually purchased using a day-ahead method based on forecasts or over a longer period of time. However, if the purchase deviates from the forecast, this can cost the energy supplier a lot of money. A real-time electricity purchase counteracts this problem.
Large customers in particular are important electricity consumers and shape the consumption profile of a grid area. Their monitoring in real time enables electricity trading at the moment of demand, which results in a more favourable tariff. As a utility company, you can thus offer the large customer a lower and more interesting tariff and keep him as a customer. The real-time recording of electricity data can also be used for inspection and sold to the customer as a monitoring solution, thus benefiting both sides.
The transmission of the electricity data takes place in real time via the standardised SDAT interface. This means that the electricity data is immediately available to the energy supply company and, thanks to the bundling of different procurers, the electricity can be automatically purchased on the intra-day market at lower tariffs.
